searching-for-light asked: in response to your last answer, i completely agree. however, my mother is wary of me going alone as a 22 year old female. i feel that i should have nothing to worry about. any ideas on how to convince her of the same?
Well, tell her that you are not really going to be alone. Show her the stats. Tell her that approximately 120.000 reached Compostela between May and August 2011. That is, one thousand per day. You can also tell her, that in August 2011, 509 Americans reached Santiago. That is, 16 a day. That is, two every hour when the Peregrino Office is open.
You are not going to be alone. This is not a jungle trip. This is rural Europe. Ask her to do her own research. Ask her to look into it herself. She will have to admit at one point that she’s over-reacting it.
Option two: Find Americans on the international Camino discussion boards (there are quite a few), and try to fly out together. It is okay to walk together for a few days. Then you’ll see it’s better alone and you’ll leave each other.
